December 15, 1968: The Youngstown district’s 110,000-man labor force is somewhat merrier this Christmas season, with payrolls $2 million to $3 million higher than they were in late September.

Mr. and Mrs. George Collier and members of the Poland fire department rescue three deer that fell though thin ice on the lake in front of the Collier home at 849 Youngstown-Poland Road. The deer were running from hunters. After they were rescued, dried and warmed, they returned to the woods.

L.S. Hamaker, sales promotion manager of Republic Steel Corp., says stainless steel is expected to occupy an important place in steel sales because of its corrosion-resisting qualities. The steel is made in electric furnaces and uses expensive alloys, including ferro-chromium and nickel.
