Sheen daughters in crash
MALIBU, Calif. — A spokesman for Charlie Sheen says the actor’s two young daughters were involved in a collision on a highway in Malibu but were not injured.
Authorities say 4-year-old Sam and 3-year-old Lola were in a car driven by their nanny Friday. It was struck by a Honda Civic making a turn in front of them on the Pacific Coast Highway.
The Honda driver was taken to a hospital, but the extent of her injuries was not released.
Sheen’s spokesman said the accident could have been worse, but the children were in car seats.
Sheen shares custody of the girls with ex-wife Denise Richards. He also has an older daughter with a former girlfriend and is expecting a fourth child with current wife, Brooke Mueller.
Writer pleads innocent
VENTURA, Calif. — An Oscar-winning screenwriter of “Pulp Fiction” has pleaded innocent to vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol in a fatal January crash.
Roger Avary of Ojai was arraigned Friday in a court in Ventura.
Authorities say Avary’s car hit a telephone pole in Ojai on Jan. 13. The crash injured his wife and killed passenger Andreas Zini, who was visiting from Italy.
The 43-year-old Avary has apologized for the accident. His lawyer has said the writer was grief-stricken over the death.
Avary and director Quentin Tarantino won the 1995 Academy Award for writing the screenplay of “Pulp Fiction.” Avary also co-wrote the screenplay for last year’s “Beowulf.”
Cruise wants to do musical
“I always wanted to do a musical, and I’m glad musicals are now back in vogue.” So says Tom Cruise in a chat with “Entertainment Tonight Canada” about his great unrealized dream. Meanwhile, in a brave move, Tom tells Jay Leno that he liked making “Valkyrie,” a WWII saga about a failed plot to kill Adolf Hitler, because — and here he goes out on a real limb — he totally hates Hitler. In fact, he’s “always wanted to kill Hitler.”

Last year the group gave a total of $2.75 million for IRC programs in the war-ravaged region.
