Possible increase
Salem officials are contemplating asking for an increase in the city’s 1 percent tax, which has grown slowly. Here are the receipts from recent years. A half-percent increase would bring in about $1.8 million a year, city officials said.
2003: $3.7 million
2004: $3.71 million
2005: $3.8 million
2006: $3.9 million.
2007: $3.98 million
