Boardman native competes for love on ‘Momma’s Boys’
The new series premieres Tuesday on NBC.
In “Momma’s Boys,” the new NBC dating show, 32 single women vie for the attention of three bachelors.
Misty Alli, a Boardman native, is one of those 32 women.
The weekly series premieres at 10 p.m. Tuesday. Ryan Seacrest of “American Idol” is one of the executive producers.
The six-week series centers around three eligible but complacent bachelors who get help from their possessive mothers in choosing their perfect woman.
According to NBC’s description, it poses the question: “Who is really the most important woman in every man’s life?”
Conflicts arise between the men’s desires and their mothers’ wishes. Rivalries also emerge among the women.
An excited Alli spoke to The Vindicator as the first air date neared.
“It’s a reality show concept that hits close to home for me,” she said. “I am a single girl in LA, looking for love.
“But the moms — that was a twist. Nobody wants to go through them.”
Alli, an Ohio State University graduate, moved to Los Angeles three years ago to pursue an acting career. She has had a number of parts since then, including several episodes of the Nickelodeon series “Just Jordan.”
She also has a lead role in “Trouble,” a film directed by Malcolm Mays about racial tension in Los Angeles high schools. It is scheduled for release in 2009.
Alli said “Momma’s Boys,” which was filmed in the summer, is her biggest opportunity to date. The women, she said, get to choose which bachelor they will go after. “All three bring different elements to the show,” said Alli.
She wasn’t allowed to reveal too much about her pick or her actions on the show but said “I’m an opinionated woman, and I like a strong-minded man.”
Early press reports indicate that one of the mothers is a real piece of work — a sort of female Archie Bunker.
Did Alli butt heads with her? “I had run-ins with everyone,” she said.
Alli is the daughter of Rick Alli and Delphine Baldwin-Casey, both of Youngstown.
X“Momma’s Boys” premieres at 10 p.m. Tuesday on NBC; moves to 9 p.m. Dec. 22 (Monday); then airs at 10 p.m. Mondays from Dec. 29 through Jan. 19.
