Bruce Timko's Dad got him interested in playing golf

To say Bruce Timko enjoys golf would be quite an understatement.
“I’ve been golfing since I was probably 2, he said. “Before I could walk, I had a club in my hand.”
Timko, a junior at Warren John F. Kennedy High School, was introduced to the game by his father. He added he loves it because he is competitive and enjoys the challenge.
“My dad got me into golf real early and I played as soon as I could,” Timko said. “As soon as I could hit the ball far enough to get on a regular course I started playing, and all the time since then.”
As one of the leaders of the team, Timko was responsible for helping out the younger, more inexperienced players. He made it to the state tournament this past season and hopes to go back after his remaining two seasons.
“We had a young team coming up, and I was the only returning player who had played at all on varsity,” he said. “But I knew we just had to play our best out there.”
Timko plays basketball for the Eagles during the winter, but it’s golf the rest of the year.
“I’ll be playing golf until fall is over; it’s nothing but golf during the summer,” he said. “We go every week to different tournaments, and it’s pretty much all summer.”
Timko said one of the most difficult parts of golf is the individual nature of the game. Even though he competes on a team, his real competition is himself.
“Sometimes it’s not always fun being out there by yourself all day,” he said. “But you’ve got to learn to love it and work hard at it and it’ll pay off eventually.”
