Amy Scullion s Two-sport ace credits teammates
Salem's Amy Scullion
If she had to choose between volleyball or basketball, Amy Scullion would choose volleyball — barely.
The choice wasn’t easy for the junior from Salem.
“I like them both for different reasons,” she said. “Volleyball is really a team sport and basketball is really aggressive and I like the change.”
The 6-foot Quaker says she enjoys both games but gives the slight edge to volleyball in terms of enjoyment.
“I have my moments in both,” she said with a smile.
Last season, Scullion’s sophomore year, the Quakers volleyball squad participated in the state tournament. Scullion said the experience was incredible.
“That was awesome,” she said. “We had a really great team and we got on a run where we were playing really well. It was a good time.”
Having lost a lot of senior leadership, Scullion was uncertain how her team would fare this season.
“I was a little unsure of how we’d do, but we really came together as a team.”
Scullion credits her individual success with the girls she’s played with. Her teammates, she said, make her better.
“I’ve been really lucky to play with a bunch of girls who really care about the sport,” she said. “They put in a lot of time and effort, not only during the season but out of season, and I think that’s why we’ve been so successful. Definitely the success that I have had and that the team has had has to do with the group of girls that I’ve played with.”
