Liberty outlasts LaBrae in overtime duel, 82-80


Anthony Cleveland and Teshaun Tetlow led a balanced attack for the Leopards.

LIBERTY — Anthony Cleveland scored six of his 24 points in overtime on Friday to lead the Liberty High basketball team to an 82-80 victory over LaBrae.

Teshaun Tetlow delivered four of his 23 tallies in the extra session.

Letlow also had 12 rebounds and Cleveland 10 while Floyd Showers added 14 points and five assists and Blair Williams 10 points to aid the Leopards, who tied it in regulation at 67-67.

Mike Morris fired in 27 points, including six 3-point gioals, to lead LaBrae. Cameron Truss added 16 points and Matt Szarady 10.

Newton Falls 60, Struthers 51 (OT)

NEWTON FALLS — Adam Ryczaj’s goal with five seconds remaining tied the game in regulation for Struthers at 49-49, but Newton Falls rallied in overtime behind freshman Cody Dillon and senior Todd Medallis.

Dillon scored the first four points before Medallis hit 5 of 6 free throws to seal the outcome.

Newton Falls had taken an 18-5 lead, but before the Wildcats chipped away to assume a 47-46 lead late in regulation. Then a 3-pointer by Brian Sole put Newton Falls up, 49-47, before Ryczaj’s tying goal.

Marcus Fowler had a game-high 18 points while Sole finished with 14. Struthers’ Jaa’Meire Brown had 17 points, while Nick Jacubec added 14.

Newton Falls’ other wins were over Rootstown (70-44) and Lakeview in OT (65-62).

Lakeview 81, Girard 43

CORTLAND — The Bulldogs scored the game’s first 11 points en route to its first win.

Senior guard Joel Davis and senior forward Robert Franks both had 19 points for the George Lanterman-coached Bulldogs.

Jarred Clark added 15 points for the winners (1-2).

Lakeview connected on 30 of 53 goals as the Bulldogs almost doubled-up on the visitors. Franks and Tom Sarko were also leaders as they shared the top numbers in rebounds (six apiece) and assists (five apiece).

Joe Augustine’s 13 points paced the Indians (0-2), who connected on 18 of 38 goals.
