Wright St. 62, Ark.-Little Rock 55

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Cory Cooperwood hit 7-of-11 of his shots from the field and all four of his free throws to score 19 points as Wright State topped Arkansas-Little Rock. Wright State (2-6) used 66 percent shooting in the first half to get a 39-31 lead at halftime that UALR (6-2) couldn’t overcome. The Trojans made only 39 percent of their field-goal attempts in the entire game. John David Gardner added 11 points for Wright State. UALR’s scoring was led by Steven Moore, with 18 points, while Matt Mouzy scored 14. Moore also led the Trojans in assists, with five.

Iowa 73, Iowa State 57

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Jeff Peterson led four Iowa players in double figures with 17 points. Jermain Davis added 16 points for the Hawkeyes (9-2), who opened the second half on a 25-4 run to blow open what had been a tight game. Iowa, which led by two at the break, got a pair a 3s from Peterson that helped put them ahead 48-34 with 14:55 left. Matt Gatens pushed Iowa’s lead to 16 by cutting through the lane for a layup and hitting a pair of free throws, and Peterson followed Devan Bawinkel’s 3 with a layup to make it 59-36 with 10:45 to go. Diante Garrett had 16 points to lead Iowa State (6-3), which lost its second straight to an instate school. The Cyclones blew a late lead and lost at home to Drake, 66-63, on Tuesday.

Drake 84, Georgia Southern 73

DES MOINES, Iowa — Josh Young scored 26 points Friday to lead Drake to an 84-73 win over Georgia Southern in the first round of the Hy-Vee Classic. Young was 6-for-10 from the field with four 3-pointers and made 10 of 12 free throws for the Bulldogs (8-2). Drake has won six straight games.

No. 23 Florida 77, Florida A&M 55

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Sha Brooks scored 12 points, Sharielle Smith added 11 and Florida extended its winning streak to 10 games. Marshae Dotson and Lonnika Thompson added nine points each for the Gators (10-1), who used a 20-3 run midway through the first half to turn a five-point game into a rout. Stephanie Foster led the Rattlers (4-3) with 21 points. She was 6-of-16 from the floor and 7-of-10 from the free-throw line. Florida shot 60 percent in the first half, led 46-23 at the break and extended the lead to 31 points, 61-30, midway through the second. The Gators, playing on one day’s rest, cruised the rest of the way despite missing all eight shots from 3-point range in the second half. The Gators will now take a nine-day break for final exams before hosting No. 16 Pittsburgh.
