Dawson’s put-back paces East to victory over Mooney
YOUNGSTOWN — Briana Dawson’s put-back goal after missing an attempt with about five seconds left Thursday gave East a 45-44 win over Mooney in a girls basketball game.
Mooney had gone ahead, 44-43, on Kelly Martino’s two foul shots with 18 seconds remaining.
Dawson finished with 15 points while Chelsea Bennett had 14 to lead East (2-2).
Katie Hughes scored 14 points to lead Mooney (1-3).
McDonald 46, Leetonia 32
MCDONALD — Joh’Vonnie Mosley had 24 points, including 12 foul shots, and 17 rebounds to lead McDonald (4-0, 1-0 ITCL).
Joey Courtney hit nine points on three 3-point goals to also pace McDonald, while Ari-Anna Williams added three points and threee assists.
Lynsie Davis had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Gina Jones three steals for Leetonia (2-3, 0-1 ITCL).
Southern 41, Jackson-Milton 39
SALINEVILLE — Maddy Dowling scored 20 points as Southern held off Jackson-Milton.
Ashley Russell added 10 points for the Indians (1-3). Alyssa Chine scored 14 and Maddie Griffiths 11 for the Bluejays.
Crestview 59, Springfield 45
NEW MIDDLETOWN — Crestview and Springfield battled for three quarters, but the Rebels outscored the Tigers 13-5 in the final quarter to take the win.
Chelsea Bowker led all scorers with 25 points and 16 rebounds for the Rebels (4-1), while Marissa Newbaur added 14. Rachael Kennedy led the Tigers (1-2) with 12 points.
Columbiana 63, Mineral Ridge 35
COLUMBIANA — Katie Witmer scored 24 points and added eight rebounds, four blocked shots and five assists for the Clippers (2-1, 1-0) in their ITCL opener. Kaylee Couchenour added 12 points and Ashley Shea had nine rebounds.
Lordstown 50, Badger 24
LORDSTOWN — The unbeaten Red Devils (4-0, 4-0) defensive limited the Braves to nine points in the first half rolling to a 26-9 lead by intermission in the Northeaster Athletic Conference game. It’s the best start for Lordstown in the past five years.
Brianna Blodgett, 5 foot-10 center, the only senior on the squad, scored 12 points and pulled down 15 of 33 rebounds for the Red Devils. Lindsay Harrison added 11 points and Keeley Chaffee had five assists.
Only four players scored for the Braves with Jordan Moy leading the way with nine points and Sara Bonar had seven.
Lowellville 61, Wellsville 45
WELLVILLE — The Rockets (2-1, 1-0 ITCL) rushed out to a 23-14 lead in the first quarter and the Tigers (1-3, 0-1) couldn’t make up the difference. Ashley Moore led the Lowellville with 17 points. Emily Carlson chipped in with 16 and Taylor Hvisdak finished with 14. Sarah Drysdale led the Tigers (1-3, 0-1) with 13 points.
Lisbon 50, East Palestine 29
EAST PALESTINE — The unbeaten Blue Devils (3-0) rolled to a commanding 35-9 lead by intermission in the Inter-Tri-County Teir One opener. Mindy Jackson scored a game-high 28 points for the Blue Devils. Becky Bollinger led the Bulldogs (1-2, 0-1) with 13 points and she pulled down 4 of 19 rebounds.
Western Reserve Academy 60, Warren JFK 39
WARREN — Unbeaten Western Reserve Academy (4-0) built a 41-16 lead by halftime then cruised to the easy victory. Kelly Muffley, Maggie Craig and Kathleen McCallops paced the attack with 15, 13 and 11 points respectively. Paige Kleric led the Eagles (1-2) with 12 points.
