Passed-out woman drives over 70-foot hill

STAFF REPORT

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A city woman who drove over a 70-foot embankment in the city’s North Hill area blacked out before a sharp curve on Shenango Street, said police Chief Tom Sansone.

Yvonne Isabella, 56, of Waldo Street, did not appear to be seriously hurt after the accident late Tuesday, Sansone said. She was taken to Jameson Hospital, where there was no report on her condition available Wednesday.

Sansone said police were called at 11:35 p.m. with a report of someone seeing taillights disappearing over a hill.

The accident happened at Shenango and Wallace avenues, Sansone said.

He said that a police officer who reached Isabella encountered her trying to get out of the car. He told her to stay still. Police and fire crews worked to free her and bring her up in a basket, he said.

He said Isabella was walking and talking and appeared to be OK.

He said it isn’t likely police will pursue charges. Isabella believes she passed out due to a medical condition, Sansone added.
