Poland, Salem triumph


POLAND — Niko Fatimus and Ben Donlow scored 18 points each, and Luke Wollet added 16 to lead the Poland boys basketball team over Lakeview, 87-79, Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs (2-0) led 68-66 after three quarters, but won the final period, 19-13. David Baker added nine points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots for Poland. Wollet had seven steals. Donlow and Niko Fatimus had three assists each.

Lakeview (0-2) was led by Ethan Metheny with 24 points. Justin Clark added 18, Robert Franks scored 15 and Joel Davis tossed in 12.

Salem 53, Beaver Local 44

LISBON — Chris Brown’s 17 points included four 3-pointers for the Quakers (1-0). Trent Toothman scored 10 points.

For the Beavers (0-2), Brett Hunt scored 15 points and made three steals. Shawn Mercer had 10 points and four assists while Jake Lunders pulled down 11 rebounds and scored eight points.

Campbell 78, Union 44

CAMPBELL — The Red Devils opened their season in impressive fashion as Jerah’me Williams scored 22 points and Nate Hodge added 20.

Claxton Lebron added 11 points and Dorian Jones scored 10 for Campbell, which held a 41-31 edge in rebounds. Matt Burkes scored 13 points to lead Union (2-1). Both teams committed 19 turnovers.

Hubbard 83, Niles 76

HUBBARD — Kurtis Drummond scored 25 points to lead Hubbard over Niles.

Sam Bellino added 18 points for the Eagles (2-0), who led 41-37 at halftime. Bobby Thompson scored 16 points, Mike Lupochvsky had 12 and Tommy Jackson 10.

Niles (1-1) was led by Ryan Frantz, who had five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points. Saul Vaughn finished with 18 points and Cory Floyd scored 15.

Newton Falls 70, Rootstown 44

ROOTSTOWN — The Tigers (2-0) rushed out to a 24-6 first quarter lead and they were ahead 38-17 at the intermission. Marcus Fowler triggered the attack with 17 points. Todd Medallis added 13 and Brian Sole had 11. Brennan Hartung and Brandon Costanzo led Rootstown with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
