Truck driver survives head-on train collision
BELOIT— A truck traveling eastbound on state Route 165 collided with a train early Monday evening.
Firefighters for the Beloit Fire Department said the man, whose name was not released at press time, turned onto the tracks, hitting the train head-on about 6:30 p.m.
He was taken to Mercy Hospital in Canton, and firefighters said he was in serious but not critical condition as of late Monday night.
No one on the train was injured.
The Canfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol also assisted on the call.
Town hall meeting planned
YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown Councilman Jamael Tito Brown will have a town hall meeting for residents of the city’s 3rd Ward at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Park Vista Gathering Room, 1216 Fifth Ave.
Various department heads will answer questions from the ward’s residents, said Brown, the ward’s councilman. The meeting will focus, he said, on crime and safety, housing, and community improvements.
African celebration at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN — The Africana Studies Program at Youngstown State University will have the ninth annual Jabali African Cultural Celebration at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center.
The evening will feature an authentic African dinner, entertainment by the Harambee Drummers of Youngstown and the YSU African Student Union. Thomas S. Conley, executive director and chief executive officer of Warren-Youngstown Urban League, will deliver the keynote address.
