101 to be laid off in Austintown
staff report
AUSTINTOWN— More layoffs lay ahead for 101 employees at Comprehensive Logistics, a company that provides service to General Motors in Lordstown.
A letter to the township trustees cites “unforeseeable business conditions,” along with a GM-initiated reduction-in-force order as the reasons for the layoffs, which will go into effect Dec.23.
The plant, located at 365 Victoria Road, serves the General Motors Lordstown complex, where it handles 85 percent of the parts shipped to the plant. Comprehensive sends 480 truckloads of parts to the plant each 16-hour workday.
The letter stated that the layoffs are expected to be permanent.
Trustee Bo Pritchard said what makes the news so bad is that the announcement comes so close to the holidays.
“It’s a shame to hear about layoffs in Austintown, but it’s reflective of what America is going through,” he said at Monday’s trustee meeting. “We rely heavily on the fact that Lordstown is right there, so it’s devastating.”
