Picturebook collection to be dedicated at KSU

KENT — Acclaimed children’s author and illustrator David Macaulay will be the keynote speaker during dedication ceremonies for the Marantz Picturebook Collection on Dec. 15 at Kent State University Ballroom.

The event, which begins at 3 p.m., will also feature talks by the Marantz family and KSU president Dr. Lester A. Lefton.

The Marantz Collection is a compilation of more than 21,000 children’s picture books chronicling the rich artistic and literary tradition of modern storytelling for young people over the past half a century. Its cataloging style — by artist or illustrator rather than by author — reflects the view that picture books can be studied and valued as art objects as well as literary works.

The School of Library and Information Science received a $249,000 gift from the Reinberger Foundation of Cleveland to partially fund renovation of an 1,800-square-foot space in the Reinberger Library to house the collection.
