SENIOR SIDELIGHTS

St. Joe’s at the Mall, next to Sears in Eastwood Mall in Niles, will host an AARP Driver Safety Program from 9 a.m. to1 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. The eight-hour classroom refresher course for drivers 50 years of age and older focuses on the effects of aging on driving and how to adjust driving habits to remain safe on the road. The class is taught in two four-hour sessions and attendance at both is required to receive a certificate of completion. The cost is $10 and registration is limited. Senior Independence Senior Center of Mahoning County, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, has planned the following activities: Monday, Men’s and Women’s Needlecraft Club from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Cancer Support Group 10 to 11, OSU Nutrition classes 11 to 12:30 p.m., and bridge at 1 p.m.; Tuesday, oil painting and computer class at 10 and noon, cornhole practice at 1:15 p.m., and digital club at 2; Wednesday, watercolor class at 10 a.m., computer at 10 and noon, tai chi at noon and 500 cards at 1 p.m.; Thursday, woodcarvers and Watch Our Weight Club at 9 a.m., Diabetic workshop at 10, exercise at noon, and line dancing at 1 p.m.; and Friday, Texas Hold’em at 1 p.m. Special events are: Tuscany/Volant trip 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, and Christmas party at Youngstown Senior Center from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Friday.
