MERCER COUNTY Sentencings


These people were sentenced to prison terms or given probation last week in Mercer County Common Pleas Court. According to court documents:

Richard Foster, 50, formerly of Meadville, nine to 24 months in the State Correctional Facility with credit for 135 days already served, plus restitution for unauthorized use, a misdemeanor. On Feb. 28, 2007, he used a Ford Crown Victoria on Airport Road, Perry Township, without the owner’s permission.

Rochelle Greene, 48, Bolde Drive, Hermitage, two years’ probation for one consolidated count of obstructing administration of law or other governmental function, a misdemeanor. On Jan. 13, she physically interfered with the arrest of a criminal suspect and questioning of a victim in a parking lot on Sterling Avenue, Sharon, despite repeated orders by police to stop.

Erik Kirby, 23, Brentwood Drive, Greenville, three to 18 months in Mercer County Jail, with a portion to be served as house arrest, plus restitution for one consolidated count of theft by unlawful taking, a felony. On Sept. 3, 2006, he took a motorcycle belonging to another man from a Summit Road, South Pymatuning Township, address.

Teressa Maines, 30, East Lutton Street, New Castle, two years’ probation for retail theft, a misdemeanor. On Nov. 12, 2007, she stole $129 worth of clothing from Wal-Mart, 1275 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage.

Brian Matvey, 35, formerly of Crawford Drive, Hermitage, two years’ probation plus restitution for a consolidated count of theft by unlawful taking and another consolidated count of retail theft, both misdemeanors. On May 30, 2007, he took two handguns, a rifle, a shotgun and muzzleloader from a Pine Hollow Boulevard, Hermitage, residence. Then on Jan. 30 this year, he stole $25 worth of gasoline from Sheetz, 2381 S. Hermitage Road, Hermitage.

Rachel McCarthy, 29, Andover, Ohio, 18 months’ probation for misdemeanor retail theft. On Jan. 20, she stole $242 worth of gloves, clothing, candy, jewelry and other items from Wal-Mart, Hermitage.

Lacy Swogger, 24, Greenville-Sheakleyville Road, Hadley, six to 18 months in the State Correctional Facility for identity theft, a misdemeanor. On May 24, 2007, she used another woman’s credit card to obtain $1,150 in cash at a Hempfield Township motel.

Mitchell Thomas, 31, formerly of Hamilton Avenue, Farrell, one to two years in the Mercer County Jail, with credit for 292 days already served, plus eight years’ probation for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony, and institutional vandalism, a misdemeanor. On Sept. 26, 2002, he was apprehended at his home with crack cocaine. Then on Sept. 4, 2008, while in a cell at the county jail, he removed caulking from a window and bent back the frame.

Darron Baum, 37, Franklin, Pa., two months to two years in jail for misdemeanor retail theft. He was declared eligible for temporary release and early parole. On April 17 2008, he stole a vacuum cleaner and a carpet cleaner valued at a total $601 from Wal-Mart, 1275 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage.

Aaron Blomgren, 34, formerly of Euclid Avenue, Sharon, eight months to two years in jail plus restitution for felony criminal trespass and a consolidated misdemeanor count of theft from a motor vehicle. He was declared eligible for temporary release and early parole. On Jan. 14, 2008 he stole a stereo, a global positioning system and $10 cash from three parked cars in Sharon.

Charles Brady, 37, of North Perry Highway, Mercer, four months to two years in jail for unauthorized use of an automobile, a misdemeanor. On April 10, 2008, he used a Chevy sedan on Mercer-Butler-Pike Road, Pine Township, without the owner’s permission.

Issac Lewis, 25, of Stewart Avenue, Greenville, suspended sentence plus four years’ probation for one consolidated count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony. On Nov. 28, 2007, he sold an OxyContin tablet, and then on Dec. 14, 2007, three methadone pills to another person at his home.

Melvin Wilson, 22, of Detroit Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio, one year’s probation plus restitution for unauthorized use of an automobile, a misdemeanor. He possessed a stolen Chevy Malibu March 30, 2008, on Pulaski-Mercer Road, Wilmington Township.

Greggory Zyak, 30, Baldwin Avenue, Sharon, one to two years in jail with credit for six months’ already served, followed by three years’ probation, plus restitution for one consolidated felony count of bad checks. On March 25, 2008, he wrote two checks from a closed account for a total of $206 to Rite Aid, 1851 E. State St., Hermitage.
