YOUNGSTOWN — The Friends of The Museum of Industry & Labor will meet at 5 p.m. Dec. 15 at the museum, 151 W. Wood St.
The group is a community-wide committee that has been organized to promote and support the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor. The group is open to the public; dues are nominal.
Toys for Tots drop-off
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The Pennsylvania State Police New Castle station is a drop-off site for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. Drop off new, unwrapped toys at the station on Route 18 at Mitchell Road until Dec. 15.
Coitsville to kick off its holiday festivities
COITSVILLE — The township will open its holiday festivities this week. The Christmas tree lighting will take place Wednesday at the town hall, 3711 McCartney Road (U.S. Route 422). All residents and township employees are welcome to attend, and light refreshments will be served. Santa will make his appearance at 6:45 p.m.
Winter Break Play Days
WARREN — The YWCA of Warren will host Winter Break Play Days over the winter school break for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The Play Days will be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on these dates: Dec. 22, 23, 29, 30 and Jan. 1.
Children in attendance will make new friends, develop character and learn valuable life skills while enjoying the time off from school. Each day will include a combination of play, goal-oriented activities and quiet time. Cost is $30 per day or $125 for all five days. A 20-percent discount will be offered to those families registering more than one child.
Morning and afternoon snacks will be provided, but children must bring their own lunch. Call the YWCA of Warren at (330) 373-1010 to register. The YWCA Warren is at 375 N. Park Ave.
Mercer Co. officials hire two law clerks
MERCER, Pa. – Mercer County commissioners have hired two law clerks. Atty. Michael Hughes of Pittsburgh was hired for Judge Francis Fornelli as an independent contractor at $25 per hour. The contract is effective until terminated by either party. They also hired Lauren Hackett for Judge Thomas Dobson at $32,262.
Commissioners also re- appointed Commissioner Brian Beader to a three-year term on the Neshannock Creek Watershed Joint Municipal Authority, beginning Jan. 1.
Business seeks help in aiding the needy
COLUMBIANA — Witmer’s Inc., a farm equipment business on state Route 14 between Salem and Columbiana, is seeking the public’s help for those who are in need this Christmas season.
When you drop off a nonperishable food item at Witmer’s, you can register to win a Massey Ferguson pedal tractor and several other prizes. The business will donate all the food it receives to the Way Station ministry.
The store is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Witmer’s Inc. has been in business for more than 71 years.
