BE PREPARED: Al Kindler, foreman of the “candy butchers” at Columnist Esther Hamilton’s 1953 Alias Santa Claus fund-raising show, gives instructions to three Boy Scouts who were there to help, Jim Pescitani, Larry DiLoreto and Jim Hawley. Candy butchers were prominent Valley businessmen and industrialists who worked the crowd at Stambaugh Auditorium for donations for the area’s needy. They traditionally dressed in tuxedos and butcher’s aprons.
