BOARDMAN — A Market Street salon is giving back to the men and women of the active military and their families.
Pecchia’s Salon and Day Spa is participating in the National Day of Thanks. From 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, members of the active military and their immediate family members will be treated to a complimentary haircut and styling. The salon asks that people call (330) 758-4991 to schedule an appointment.
“We did it two years ago, but we hope we have a better response this time,” said Melissa Lileas, salon coordinator.
Only about 10 people took advantage of the program in 2006.
The event was started by ESBI International Salon in Strongsville.
“We were at a hair show two years ago and we joined with the ESBI salon to do the program,” Lileas said.
Participants will be asked to provide the appropriate military identification.
Pecchia’s, owned by Mario and Margaret Pecchia, is working with the United Service Organizations (USO) to contact families of area service men and women.
“It’s a way of giving back, of doing something for the community,” Lileas said.
Johnny’s, Youngstown Sports Grill and Belleria will provide food for the event, and Great Harvest Bread Company, Hollywood Video and Chick-fil-A are offering coupons and other items as well.
If the response is good, the salon may make the day an annual observance.
“Hopefully, more people will come this year,” Lileas said.
