YOUNGSTOWN — Curtis Treharn, found dead behind his Mabel Street home Friday, had been shot multiple times.

Treharn’s mother, who lives across from her son’s home at 622 Mabel on the South Side, went to check on him around 1 p.m. She hadn’t seen her 45-year-old son since Monday, said Capt. Kenneth Centorame, chief of detectives.

Treharn was face down in the backyard, blood coming from his face. A flashlight was found near his right side.

Treharn had been beaten and shot multiple times and had been dead several days, said Rick Jamrozik, a Mahoning County coroner’s investigator. The victim had apparently been working in the backyard, and there were tools nearby, he said.

The investigation was assigned to Detective Sgts. John Patton and Rick Spotleson.

Treharn’s death is the city’s 28th homicide of the year. There were 36 homicides at this time last year.

Elsewhere, two arrests were made in the Nov. 12 shooting death of Billy O. McGeorge, 32, of Parkwood Avenue. He was found dead in the driveway of 419 W. Marion Ave. on the South Side around 12:25 a.m. A man who lives nearby heard three shots.

Centorame said Dionne Dawson, 26, of Southern Boulevard and Gerald Hardaway, 27, of Ridge Avenue were arrested Friday by members of the Crime Suppression Unit. He said the hard work of Detective Sgt. Patrick Kelly paid off in Thursday’s indictment of Dawson and Hardaway, both of whom are charged with murder.

Centorame said the motive was an ongoing feud.
