City man found shot to death on South Side

YOUNGSTOWN — Curtis Treharn, found dead behind his Mabel Street home on Friday, had been shot multiple times.

Treharn’s mother, who lives across from her son’s home at 622 Mabel on the South Side, went to check on him around 1 p.m. She hadn’t seen her 45-year-old son since Monday, said Capt. Kenneth Centorame, chief of detectives.

Treharn was face down in the back yard, blood coming from his face. A flashlight was found near his right side.

Treharn had been beaten and shot multiple times and had been dead several days, said Rick Jamrozik, a Mahoning County coroner’s investigator. The victim had apparently been working in the back yard, there were tools nearby, he said.

The investigation was assigned to Detective Sgts. John Patton and Rick Spotleson.

Treharn is the city’s 28th homicide of the year, there were 36 homicides at this time last year.
