Niles school board member resigns

NILES — Dori Gatta MacMillan, who has served less than one year of her four-year term on the board of education, has resigned.
“I’m looking for a new path professionally and personally, and trying to create an opportunity that gives me a variety of options,” MacMillan said. “I do hope to continue to support my school and community from a citizen and a parent’s perspective.”
MacMillan is a school psychologist for the Mahoning County Educational Service Center.
She said that despite her resignation, she intends to remain active with the Niles schools.
“She has been a fine professional board member, and I’m sorry to see her resign,” said Rocco Adduci, schools superintendent.
Adduci said that under the Ohio Revised Code, the board must name a replacement within 30 days from the effective date of the resignation, which was Dec. 2.
That means the board will have to name the replacement at its regular meeting Dec. 18, the only regular session scheduled in that 30-day time frame.
Adduci said MacMillan’s replacement’s term of office will last only until Dec. 31, 2009. The seat is up for election in November 2009.
Niles residents who are registered voters and interested in the board appointment must send a letter of interest and/or a r sum by 3 p.m. Dec. 15, to Superintendent’s Office, 100 West St., Niles 44446.
Adduci said candidate interviews may take place before the Dec. 18 meeting, which will be at the Niles Middle School.
