Austintown detectives told of Colts league money missing

AUSTINTOWN— Jeffrey Jones, president of Austintown Colts youth football league, has filed a report with the Austintown Police Department stating that one of the organization’s officers has taken money.

Jones told police at least one check was discovered forged with his signature.

He said one other check was written to the person in question, and two more were written to cash with the purpose of paying the organization’s bills.

All three of those checks had the proper signature, but Jones said the money was never used for its intended purpose.

In total, he said at least $3,000 was taken from the Austintown Colts funds.

Copies of the checks were provided to the police department, and Jones said the account has since been closed.

Austintown detectives are investigating the matter.
