Murder, attempted murder and drug-making charges top the indictment list.

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County grand jury has indicted two men on murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary charges with firearm specifications in a home invasion that occurred early Saturday at a Clinton Street residence.

Indicted Thursday on those charges were Daniel A. Lopez, 18, of Himrod Avenue, and Michael Mims, 21, of Crandall Avenue.

Lopez and Mims were indicted in the death of their reputed accomplice, Preston Williams, 17, of Youngstown, who was killed after several shots were fired inside the home during the 12:30 a.m. invasion.

One of the victims inside the home said he tried to wrest a 9 mm gun away from Williams, causing it to fire.

A second victim said he retrieved his own .38-caliber revolver after seeing the struggle between Williams and the first victim. Four rounds were fired from that gun.

Police said they won’t know which gun was used to kill Williams until the coroner’s report is completed.

Mims was shot within the house and suffered minor injuries, which were treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center before he was jailed. After a nearly 48-hour police manhunt, Lopez turned himself in Sunday.

In a separate incident, the grand jury also indicted Spencer A. Brown, 19, of Rush Boulevard, on attempted murder, felonious assault and aggravated robbery charges with firearm specifications in the nonfatal shooting of Jody Hunter, 19, of Brentwood Avenue.

Hunter, who was shot in the face, walked into a downtown taxi dispatching center Nov. 2 and identified Brown as the man who shot him, police reports said. That shooting happened near Mercer and Edwards streets.

Also indicted were Jason Deshetler, 27, of Johnny K Boulevard, Hubbard, and David T. Evans, 28, of North Richview Avenue, who are charged with illegal manufacture of drugs. Both are charged in connection with a methamphetamine lab police discovered June 29 in a Mathews Road garage in Boardman.
