Indictments come in Clinton Street murder
YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County grand jury has indicted two men on murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary charges with firearm specifications in a home invasion that occurred early Saturday at a Clinton Street residence.
Indicted Thursday on those charges were Daniel A. Lopez, 18, of Himrod Avenue, and Michael Mims, 21, of Crandall Avenue.
Lopez and Mims were indicted in the death of their alleged accomplice, Preston Williams, 17, of Youngstown, who was killed after several shots were fired inside the home during the 12:30 a.m. invasion.
One of the victims inside the home said he tried to wrest a 9mm gun away from Williams, causing it to fire.
A second victim said he retrieved his .38-caliber revolver after seeing the struggle between Williams and the first victim. Four rounds were fired from his gun.
Police said they won’t know which gun was used to kill Williams until the coroner’s report is completed.
Mims was shot within the house and suffered minor injuries, which were treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center before he was jailed. After a nearly 48-hour police manhunt, Lopez turned himself in Sunday.
