Woman arrested; accused of hitting another with car

YOUNGSTOWN — A city resident was arrested after being accused of hitting another woman with her car Monday afternoon.

Laresa Tolbert, 20, Willow Court, was taken into custody on a charge of felonious assault after police said she used her car to strike an 18-year-old woman who told police she is seven weeks pregnant.

The victim told police she and a friend were walking home from class at Life Skills on Market Street just before 3 p.m., through the parking lot of Auto Zone, 3323 Market St., when she saw Tolbert speeding through the lot directly at her.

The victim said she was hit and pushed onto the hood of the vehicle before sliding off and hitting her head.

A Life Skills employee said he didn’t see how the confrontation began, but he did see Tolbert run into the victim with her car.

Tolbert told officers she and the victim had been in class together shortly before the incident.

She said the teacher left the room, and the victim and her friends tried to start a fight, so Tolbert left the building and got into her car.

Tolbert told police the victim began to bang on her car with a rock, and she hit the victim out of frustration.

A short time after the incident, she turned herself in to the Youngstown Police Department and was taken to Mahoning County Jail.
