Warren plans holiday event on the square
STAFF REPORT
WARREN — The city will kick off the Christmas holiday at 5 p.m. Friday with the lighting of the city Christmas tree, opening of the city ice skating rink, arrival of Santa Claus on his red firetruck and other events.
The occasion is being called Caroling on the Square and is sponsored by Main Street Warren, a nonprofit group whose focus is historical preservation and revitalization of the downtown.
At 7 p.m., four Warren G. Harding High School choirs will perform, as will traveling carolers.
All events will take place on Courthouse Square in downtown Warren and are open to the public. Only the ice skating has a charge.
Other events include free goodie bags for each child, a skating demonstration by the Phantoms ice hockey team, free horse-drawn carriage rides around the square and craft stations.
At 8:15 p.m., the First Presbyterian Church Choir, Bell Choir and musicians will perform at the church, at the corner of Mahoning Avenue and High Street Northeast, across from the courthouse.
