Hathaway Brown 47, Boardman 36

BOARDMAN — An early 12-8 lead was wiped out when Hathaway Brown outscored Boardman in the second qurater, 13-6, en route to its second victory. Boardman’s only second-quarter points were at the foul line, where the Spartans were 6-of-12. Six-foot one junior center Darryce Moore had 13 points and seven rebounds. Kayleigh Lipke also had seven rebounds. Compounding Boardman’s inability to get field goals were ball-handling and turnover problems. In Boardman’s five-point fourth quarter, the Spartans made only one field goal with 2:48 remaining and didn’t register a point thereafter. Until that time, Boardman (1-1) only made 3-of-4 foul shots attempted. Boardman’s 13 third-quarter points were the result of field goals.

Warren Harding 57, Champion 47

CHAMPION — Champion’s 22-21 halftime lead dwindled to a five-point deficit of 47-43 with three minutes to go, when the Golden Flashes failed to score on three straight possessions in falling for the second time this season. Meanwhle, Harding (1-1) sank 7-of-8 free throws in the fourth quarter with Kourtney Williams converting 5 of 6. Williams finished with a team-high 19 points, while Jasmine Kirkland added 15. Kirkland also gathered eight of Harding’s 35 rebounds. For Champion (0-2), senior Erika Stevens had 14 of her game-high 22 points in the second quarter. The Golden Flashes only managed 19 rebounds.
