Cleveland St. 66, Valparaiso 42

CLEVELAND — J’Nathan Bullock led all scorers with 29 points to lead Cleveland State over Valparaiso. Norris Cole had 12 points and D’Aundray Brown (Ursuline) added 10 for the Vikings (5-2, 1-0 Horizon League). Howard Little had 14 for Valparaiso (2-4, 0-1). The Vikings were up by as many as 27 points. They pulled ahead 20-4 at 8:13 of the first half following a 14-0 run. The Crusaders came within 20-12 with eight unanswered points, but the Vikings scored 11 straight and ended the half ahead 31-14. They pulled to 39-14 with eight more unanswered points to start the second half. Valparaiso head coach Homer Drew was assessed two technical fouls and was ejected from the game with 6:14 left and Cleveland State ahead 53-38. Bullock scored all four free throws. The Vikings outscored the Crusaders 46 percent to 20 percent in the first half and scored 31 points off turnovers to Valparaiso’s 9.

Loyola of Chicago 64, William & Mary 61

CHICAGO — Justin Cerasoli matched a career high with 21 points as Loyola of Chicago held off William & Mary. Loyola (4-4) led 54-42 with 4:39 left, but the Tribe rallied, paced by Danny Sumner and Peter Stein. Sumner scored all of his 18 points and Stein had 14 of his 16 after the intermission. William and Mary (3-5) had a chance to tie after Loyola’s Andy Polka missed a pair of free throws with 12.3 seconds left, but David Schneider’s last-second shot was wide at the buzzer. The Tribe entered the game averaging almost nine 3-point goals per game, but made only 1-of-11 in the first half. They sank 6-of-12 3-point attempts in the second. Darrin Williams added 15 points and J.R. Blount had 11 for Loyola.

Dayton 87, Troy 70

DAYTON — Charles Little had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead unbeaten Dayton over Troy. Troy led the first nine minutes until a jumper by Little made it 18-17. He followed with a dunk to put Dayton up by three, and the Flyers led the rest of the way. Marcus Johnson added 14, London Warren 11 and Mickey Perry 10 for Dayton (7-0). Travis Lee had 10 points for Troy (3-5). After trailing 40-31 at halftime, Troy pulled within 41-40 on a 3-pointer by Regis Huddleston just over 3 minutes into the second half. But Dayton regained control with a 21-7 spurt capped by Little’s tip-in with 10:45 to play. Dayton is off to its best start since the Flyers went 9-0 in 2003-2004.
