Strong final quarter lifts McDonald, 65-56


Joh’Vonnie Mosley scored 13 of her 31 points in the fourth in the win over Windham.

MCDONALD — Junior post player Joh’Vonnie Mosley poured in 31 points as McDonald broke open a close game with a final-quarter surge, defeating Windham 65-56 in a girls basketball game Monday.

Mosley scored 13 points in the final quarter. Mosley also had 11 rebounds while Lindsay Repp had 13 to lead the Blue Devils (2-0).

Joey Courtney and Allie Garland each added 11 points and Ari-Anna Williams nine to bolster McDonald.

Caitlyn Isler scored 19 points and Alex Sweda 18 to spark Windham.

Youngstown Christian 44, Southern 20

SALINEVILLE — Kristi Cooper had 12 points, while Sara Bell scored eight points and made 10 rebounds and seven blocks for YCS (1-1).

Katie Hartman added six points and eight rebounds.

Carly Warnock had six points and Hannah Kelm four with nine rebounds to pace Southern (0-1).

Leetonia 41, Lake Center Christian 33

LEETONIA — Gina Jones scored 18 points to lead Leetonia, while Lynsie Davis chipped in with nine.

Clarissa Parkins added four rebounds and three points.

Mary Miller had 10 points for Lake Center Christian.

Crestview 69, Western Reserve 39

NEW WATERFORD — The Rebels (1-1) rushed out to a 25-12 lead in the first quarter and they held a 42-17 halftime lead.

Chelsea Bowker scored a game high 23 points and she pulled down 12 rebounds. Marissa Newbauer added 17 points. Claire Ferrando led the Blue Devils with 10 points.

United 83, East Liverpool Christian 2

HANOVERTON — East Liverpool Christian (0-1) scored its only basket in the fourth quarter.

Maggie Miller and Ruth Prosko each scored 11 points for the Golden Eagles. (2-0) Sierra Parks finished with 10.

Sebring 58, Malvern 46

MALVERN — The Trojans (1-0) outscored Malvern 16-13 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Katy Butler scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Jill Bragg added 12 points and pulled down 17 rebounds.

Morgan McKinney led Malvern with 22 points.

Girard 28, Jackson-Milton 22

NORTH JACKSON — Katelynne Brainard and Chelsea Guerrieri led the Indians (1-1) with seven points apiece. Alyssa Chine scored 10 points and made five assists for the Bluejays (0-1).

Chaney 48, Mineral Ridge 38

MINERAL RIDGE — The Cowboys (1-0) pulled away from the Rams 12-3 in the second quarter for a 22-12 lead at intermission. Danielle Brooks and Laniece McRay scored 11 points apiece for Chaney.

Megan Ben led the Rams (0-1) with 10 points.

Beaver Local 51, Hubbard 48

HUBBARD — Sam Cianni’s 19 points led the Beavers to the victory. Macy Weber scored 10.

For the Eagles (0-1), Cara Julian scored 15 points.

Struthers 72, LaBrae 40

LEAVITTSBURG — Dana Mathews scored 22 points and Katelyn Ardale added 14 as Struthers opened up a 24-4 first quarter in the opener for both teams.

Helen-Marie Hird added 12 points for the Wildcats.

Bayle Boggs scored 21 for the Vikings.

Lordstown 48, Badger 33

KINSMAN — Lindsay Harrison had 17 points and Kelsey Wickline 15 to lead Lordstown (1-0).

Jordan Moy had 10 points for Badger (0-2).
