St. Elizabeth Auxiliary marks 75 years of service
YOUNGSTOWN — St. Elizabeth Auxiliary will celebrate its 75 years of serving St. Elizabeth Health Center and the community during a luncheon at noon Dec. 8 in Vincentian Hall at St. Edward Church, 240 Tod Lane.
In 1956, the auxiliary opened the St. Elizabeth Gift Shop as a volunteer service that has generated thousands of dollars for special equipment for the hospital and programs for the health-care staff and patients.
In conjunction with Humility of Mary Health Partners, the auxiliary works to improve the health of the community with special emphasis on the needy and underserved. As an adopted project, the auxiliary provides support for the Humility of Mary Guest House, which has served as a temporary home for families of critically ill patients at St. Elizabeth since 1988. The home makes it possible for families to be near loved ones during trying times. Recently members of the auxiliary completely refurnished the guest house and will continue to upgrade the home as needed. Funds are raised through the auxiliary’s annual shoe/uniform sales, book sales and jewelry sales.
In addition, auxiliary members knit baby blankets for neonatal special care newborns at the hospital.
For more information on the auxiliary, how to become a member or how your donation or membership can make a difference in the community, call the volunteer office at the hospital, (330) 480-3364.
