NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A man who was shot with an assault-style rifle over the weekend remained hospitalized while police filed charges against a suspect in the case.

Russell Lloyd Harris, 34, of Long Avenue in New Castle was in St. Elizabeth Health Center in critical but stable condition Monday morning after the 10:40 p.m. shooting Saturday outside a trailer at 3078 McClelland Ave. in Union Township, said state police in New Castle.

Police said that Todd Walker, 22, whose last known address was on Glen Avenue in New Castle, was charged Monday with attempted homicide and aggravated assault. Police have a warrant for his arrest.

Police said Harris was hit in the chest and stomach with two shots from 10 to 20 shots fired from a row of trees 30 to 40 feet away from the trailer.

Police said the shooter began firing after Harris arrived and started to walk behind the trailer.

Police said they do not know the motive for the shooting. They did not release the names of the residents at the trailer, but said that two people were inside when the shooting occurred.

Police recovered bullets from the trailer and from a nearby house.

Police said Walker is a suspect because a witness saw him walking in the area with a gun.
