Kansas overwhelms Kent State; Bowling Green falls in Georgia

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Sherron Collins scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half after early foul trouble Monday and Kansas made 32-of-36 free throws in a rugged 87-60 win over Kent State.

Kansas (5-1) dropped out of The Associated Press Top 25 poll earlier Monday for the first time in 47 weeks dating to the 2005-06 season.

The Jayhawks responded with a sometimes ragged win over Kent State (3-3), building a big first-half lead with pressure defense and maintaining it by hitting 24 of 26 free throws in the second half.

Cole Aldrich had 10 points, 13 rebounds and blocked four shots for Kansas, which scored 31 points off 20 Kent State turnovers.

Kent State had put together two solid games at the South Padre Invitational over the weekend, losing to Texas A&M and Illinois by six points each.

Savannah State 57, Bowling Green 54

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Jovonni Shuler scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half and Savannah State rallied to defeat Bowling Green.

Nate Miller had 12 points for Bowling Green and Chris Knight had 10 rebounds.

Anthony Jones added 11 points for the Tigers and Raye Bailey had 10.
