staff report
BOARDMAN — A 17-year-old Youngstown girl was arrested on charges of robbery, resisting arrest and vandalism, and accused of fighting with police and breaking a police cruiser window.
Police were called at about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday to Wal-Mart, Doral Drive, on a call of a shoplifter who had fled from store security. Security had followed the 17-year-old girl, of South Truesdale Avenue, out of the store and were physically struggling with her.
A police officer arrived to see the girl screaming and thrashing, trying to free herself from security officers who were trying to secure her.
The police officer told her to stop but she also fought with him. After a struggle, the girl was handcuffed and placed in the rear of a cruiser.
The girl lay down on the cruiser’s back seat and began kicking the back window with her feet and shattered it.
The store security guard told police that the girl had punched him as he retrieved items she had taken from the store and thrown on the ground in the parking lot.
The girl was taken to the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center.
