Time travel at the fair
CANFIELD — Take a trip back in time when you visit the Western Reserve Village at the Canfield Fair.
The small village with plentiful gardens provides numerous history lessons and is host to many educational displays.
Visit the country store from North Jackson that was moved to the fairgrounds in 1966, or stop by an old Canfield law office once graced by the presence of President Lincoln.
Herb gardens are planted in various spots of the village. New features are lower pots for wheelchair access and Braille identification tags.
The old train is a big attraction for children, and the coal tender was revitalized for the 162nd fair by Boardman Steel. The eight-month project headed by Dave Beibel of Boardman Steel involved new steel, new paint and hard work in order to get the coal tender back to its home one week before the fair.
2 days left and lots to do
CANFIELD — As the Canfield Fair comes to a close, attendees still have the opportunity to experience plenty of fair fun.
Starting at 1 p.m. today is the popular dress-a-cow contest in the South Cattle Complex, and tonight K-105 welcomes country stars Josh Turner and Jo Dee Messina to the Canfield Fair grandstand at 8.
Monday brings the rooster-crowing contest bright and early at 9:30 a.m. in the south ring, and Monday night the grandstand will have more music when classic rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd hits the stage at 8 p.m.
Two days of the fair remain, and those two days bring no shortage of family activities.
