Suspected marijuana seized at 2 houses

STAFF REPORT

NILES — Police served a search warrant on two houses on Dakota Avenue and found one sophisticated indoor marijuana growing operation and $75,000 worth of suspected marijuana and a smaller drug operation.

No charges have been filed, as officers confer with prosecutors, Niles police said Thursday.

At the 528 Dakota Ave. home, officers from the Niles Police Department, Trumbull Ashtabula Group law enforcement task force and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation on Wednesday took possession of suspected marijuana, a small amount of cash and marijuana growing equipment that were in the basement.

The second search warrant was served at 541 Dakota Ave., where detectives found about 10 plants with a street value of about $3,000 and marijuana-growing equipment in a room off the garage.

Though the two homes were within 1,000 feet of each other, the two cases are unrelated, officers said.

The raids were the result of a four-month investigation.
