Man robbed at gunpoint

WARREN — A 30-year-old Bazetta man told police he was robbed at gunpoint, with the gunman taking $42 in cash and his bicycle in the parking lot at 1708 Youngstown Warren Road S.E. about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The man said he was trying to cross Youngstown Road near Woodbine Avenue Southeast when four people approached him. One of them pointed a gun and demanded money.

Death in car accident

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A woman died in a two-car accident on U.S. Route 422 in Union Township.

Pennsylvania State Police said Bernice Mahood, 83, of 603 Garner Road, Edinburg, died at the scene at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday after trying to cross over Route 422 from Old Youngstown Road to Matthews Road.

She was struck by a car driven by Maryjane Patton, 67, of McDonald, Pa., police said. No charges will be filed, as Patton had the right of way, police said. Patton was not injured.

Air Force open house

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County commissioners presented a resolution Wednesday recognizing the 60th anniversary of the Air Force Reserve to Col. Karl McGregor, commander of the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.

McGregor announced an open house featuring military and historic aircraft will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 13 at the air base.

City ordinance requires headlights after dusk

YOUNGSTOWN — A city ordinance requires that vehicle headlights be turned on a half-hour after sunset. Roy Perry Jr. of Boardman learned of the ordinance on Wednesday when pulled over by police on Glenwood Avenue after dusk.

A check by police revealed that Perry, 45, of Forest Park Place, was driving under suspension. He was issued a traffic summons for DUS and headlights required a half-hour after sunset and released at the scene. The car was turned over to a licensed driver.

Zoning inspector changes positions

BOARDMAN — Darren Crivelli, township zoning inspector, is leaving his position to assume the same job in Austintown.

Crivell’s last day in Boardman is Tuesday, and he’ll begin in Austintown on Wednesday.

Crivelli will earn $58,119 annually in Austintown, about $2,500 more than his Boardman salary. He also will receive more vacation time and pay less toward health insurance in Austintown, he said.

Michael Kurilla, Austintown zoning inspector for 27 years, is retiring at the end of September. Crivelli worked as assistant zoning inspector in Austintown before moving to assistant in Boardman in 1999. He was promoted to Boardman zoning inspector in 2003.

None injured in fire

BOARDMAN — Fire caused about $75,000 in damages to a condominium and its contents early Thursday.

Firefighters were called to the home in the Reserve Commons development off Western Reserve Road about 12:30 a.m. No one was injured and the cause remains under investigation.

The blaze was contained to the garage and attic.
