LOUIE TODAY: A Top Cop and 6 homeschooled kids

U.S. Marshal Peter J. Elliot will join Louie Free, Vindy.com's news radio partner, in his downtown studio, to talk about his plans to create a Fugitive Safe Surrender program in this area.

In 2007, Elliott, of the Marshal's Northern District of Ohio, was named a “Top Cop” of the nation by the National Association of Police Organizations for his creation of the innovative FSS, which pairs the Marshal's Service with local faith and community-based organizations to offer fugitives a chance to surrender in the safe environment of a church. Over the past two years, Cleveland and Phoenix have helped more than 2,200 individuals through the program.

The Marshal's Service has now adopted it as a national program, with plans under way in Nashville, Memphis, Akron, Indianapolis, Washington D.C., Richmond and Milwaukee.

Louie will also talk with Youngstown Prosecutor Jay Macejko about the progress of some new programs the city is involved in with state and federal law enforcement.

Then the six home-schooled children of the couple Louie interviewed last week — Greg and Martine Millman, co-authors of the book, "Homeschooling: A Family's Journey," — will give their take on their own home-schooling experiences.
