CANFIELD — At 2:30 p.m. today, the first calf was born at the 2008 Canfield Fair.

Bubbles, a 6-year-old dairy cow, became a mom to Brandi in the Rhodes Family Stables. The birth took about 30 minutes.

By 4 p.m. Brandi was already able to stand up.

Ron Rhodes of Salem said they will milk Bubbles and feed Brandi from a bottle.

They nurse calves from bottles because it’s difficult to wean them once they’ve nursed from their mothers, Rhodes said.
