It’s a family affair in arts and crafts

CANFIELD — Brenda Metts, 51, has been entering her arts and crafts into Canfield Fair competitions for 15 years. This year she urged her mother, daughter and granddaughter to make it a friendly family competition.

“I told my mom just to enter so we could all be here,” said Metts of wanting all four generations to participate.

Metts’ mother, Mazie Stout, 73, entered two quilts and won her first Canfield Fair ribbon.

Sharon Rowbotham, 34, who is Metts’ daughter, didn’t win any ribbons but entered a memory box and scrapbooking projects. The youngest of the bunch, Cheyenne Rowbotham, 11, earned a blue ribbon for her knitting and also entered an outfit she sewed and a scrapbooking project.

Metts said the arts and crafts section of the fair is a great method of family bonding, plus she enjoys entering baked goods and needlework.
