East at Fitch

East at Fitch

Both teams came up with impressive victories in Week 1, and the Falcons unleased a passing attack not seen before. Quarterback Jon Ballard tied a school record with four TD passes against Chaney. East, meanwhile, defeated Cleveland South 26-6 in the first game ASB (After Sal Battles). Last year the Panthers won 20-3 in Week 2.

Herbstreit Classic

Cardinal Mooney and Howland play tough out-of-state opponents at Fawcett Stadium in Canton Saturday. At 11 a.m. the Tigers play Klein Forest of Houston, Texas, which is led by all-state running back Dominic Wilkins and linebacker Cameron Nwosu. At 5 p.m. Mooney will play Covington (Ky.) Catholic.

Liberty at Niles

Last week the Leopards couldn’t be stopped, scoring 56 points at Brookfield. Niles, on the other hand, couldn’t find the end zone in a surprising loss to Cleveland John Adams. On paper this might be another mismatch but something tells us the Red Dragons are going through a tough week of practice and will be ready for the Leopards.

Girard at Struthers

This is another one in which one team looked pretty darn good in Week 1 and the other struggled. The Indians didn’t miss a beat after having to move Kyle Stadlemyer to quarterback. All the senior did was rush for four TDs and return a punt for another score in a 47-12 victory over Salem. The Wildcats, meanwhile struggled s in a 24-7 loss to Springfield.

Ursuline at Bethlehem Catholic

This is another marquee game, scheduled for Lock Haven University Saturday night. The Fighting Irish are coming off an impressive 48-6 victory over Cleveland East Tech last weekend. This is Bethlehem Catholic’s first game of the season; the Hawks were 4-6 last season. Their best player is running back Eddie Mateo.
