Fitch, Ursuline boys tie; Liberty’s Britton scores


Rashida Strozier had a goal and an assist in Youngstown Christian’s tie with the Leopard girls.

YOUNGSTOWN — The Austintown Fitch High and Ursuline boys soccer teams battled to a 1-1 tie Tuesday at the Wick Recreation Area soccer field.

Chris Colaluca scored a goal for Fitch (0-2-1) off an assist by Anthony Savko 10 minutes into the first half to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

John Buckley of Ursuline (2-0-2) scored a goal off an assist by goalie Andrew Rich midway through the first half to tie it.

Fitch had 15 shots on goal and Ursuline six.

Goalie Bobby Douglas had five saves for the Falcons.

Rich had 13 saves for the Irish.

JVs: Fitch 1-0.

Liberty 4, Hubbard 1

LIBERTY — Matt Britton scored two goals for the Leopards, while Matt Tharp and Alex Brown added one apiece. Tom Stark, Phil Seidler and Britton each had an assists. Gabe Hitchcock scored the goal for the Eagles.

Liberty had 28 shots on goal and Hubbard seven. Zack Schmidt, goalie, had eight saves for the Eagles. Josh Hideg of the Leopards had four.

Girls Youngstown Christian 2, Liberty 2

LIBERTY — Rashida Strozier scored a goal off an assist by Katie Hartman to give Youngstown Christian a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the first half.

The Eagles’ Alyssa Angelo scored the next goal off an assist from Strozier with five minutes remaining in the half for a 2-0 lead.

Then 30 seconds into the second half, Elysa Raib scored a goal for Liberty to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Then Kacey Kurtz tallied for the Leopards (0-1-2) to tie the game with 10 minutes remaining.

Youngstown Christian had 15 shots on goal and Liberty had eight.

Goalie Kaitlyn Vestal had 10 saves for the Eagles. Raib and Alison House combined for 10 saves for the Leopards.

Warren Harding 1, Maplewood 1

WARREN — Erica Pinko scored for Maplewood in the first half and Harding senior Katie Polenick tied the game on a penalty kick in the last half.

Harding’s junior goalie Cierra Sparks had eight stops, while Elizabeth Engstrom had 14 saves for the Rockets (3-0-1). Harding is 0-1-1.

JVs: Harding 1, United 1.

Hubbard 2, Lakeview 0

CORTLAND — Kristin Tobey and Samantha Dudley each scored one goal while Anna Giancola contributed an assist to lead Hubbard (3-1).

Hubbard goalie Mariah Gordon had 10 saves. Lakeview goalie Jen Ulam had four saves.
