Excellent with distinction

Ohio Department of Education school report cards for 2007-08 added a new designation for those schools that have gone above and beyond the requirements expected. In Ohio, 74 districts were given the designation of Excellent with Distinction. Lakeview and Howland school districts were the only two in the tri-county area to achieve this. To meet state indicators:

Districts must meet or exceed the goal of 75 percent proficient on tests administered to grades three through eight, as well as the Ohio Graduation Test.

Districts must meet or exceed the goal of 85 percent proficient on tests administered to grade 11.

Districts must meet or exceed the 90 percent state-required graduation rate.

Districts must meet or exceed the 93 percent state-required attendance rate.

Howland

Enrollment: 2,964

Number of standards met: 29 out of 30

Not met: Fifth-grade math, 66.1 percent

Attendance rate: 94.8 percent

Graduation rate: 99.6 percent

Performance index score: 100.7 out of 120

Adequate yearly progress goals: Met

Lakeview

Enrollment: 2,055

Number of standards met: 27 out of 30

Not met: Fifth-grade math, 73.4 percent; eighth-grade social studies, 70.4 percent; eighth-grade science, 68.6 percent

Attendance rate: 95.4 percent

Graduation rate: 99.4 percent

Performance index score: 102.2 out of 120
