Sarah Eshun, 18, of Akron, who is majoring in biology and pre-med, said she came to YSU because she “liked the campus.” “It seems like it is very student-oriented and is focused on helping students be successful,” she said.

Kayla Kerr, 18, of Austintown, majoring in history, said, “I wanted to be close to home and YSU has a great history program.”

Nick Iacobucci, 18, of Austintown, majoring in information technology, said, “Very few schools offer this but YSU was one of them.”

Deaunta Smith, 18, of Cleveland, majoring in electronic engineering, said, “I have some family here and had heard about Youngstown State. It has good classes for my major.”

Dr. Betty Jo Licata, dean of YSU’s Williamson College of Business who helped organize the event, said, “This is the first year we’re having the convocation for all kids. It’s a monumental life experience and cause for celebration. We want to celebrate when they come here and when they graduate.”
