Columbiana downs Steubenville C.C.
STEUBENVILLE — The Columbiana High football team upended Steubenville Catholic Central 27-13 on Saturday at Harding Stadium.
Trailing 6-0, Columbiana’s Josh Harrold made a 32-yard field goal and John Richey added a 26-yard touchdown to give the Clippers the lead for good.
Columbiana sacked Central Catholic quarterback John DiCarlo seven times for minus-45 yards.
Defensive tackle Ryan Witherow had three of the sacks.
Tony Colella scored the game’s final touchdown on a 59-yard interception return with 7:19 remaining and the inside linebacker also assisted on seven tackles and had three solos.
The win for Bob Spaite’s team avenged a 57-21 loss to the Central Crusaders in the third round of the playoffs in 2005.
Richey rushed for 100 yards on 16 carries, while Brian Warchol gained 44 yards on 10 tries, which included a 12-yard TD run in the third quarter.

CUYAHOGA FALLS — The Canfield High boys soccer team battled defending Division II state champions Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy to a 2-2 tie Saturday.
The Cardinals fell behind 2-0, but Griffin Todd scored 10 minutes into the second half to cut the deficit to 2-1. Nate Merhaut then scored on an assist from Griffin to tie it with 6:24 remaining.
Stephen Morris and Matt Mason each scored for CVCA, which had 21 shots on goal to Canfield’s eight.
Volleyball East Palestine 25-19-25, Brookfield 22-25-7
EAST PALESTINE — Emily Sansenbaugher had 10 points, seven kills and five blocks, while Lindsay Gatchel had nine points, Kali George eight kills and Katie Zeh seven kills to lead East Palestine in Saturday’s quadrangular meet.
For Brookfield, Hillary Christy had six points, Ashley Swezey nine kills, Brittany Hiner 15 assists and Marissa Jones three blocks.
East Palestine 25-25, Lowellville 10-10
For East Palestine (2-0), Gatchel had 13 points, Sansenbaugher eight points, seven kills and six blocks, George eight kills and Emily Stewart five assists.
Springfield 25-25, Lowellville 6-9
For Springfield, Kallie Rogers had 30 sets, 11 assists, two aces and five points while Ashley Davis had three kills, three aces and 12 points, Rachael Kennedy seven kills and six points, and Andria Lyons 15 points. Lowellville is 0-2.

For Springfield, Rogers had 17 assists, 16 points and three aces, Davis six points and five kills, and Kennedy 10 kills and two blocks.
For Brookfield (0-2), Brooklyn Hansley had nine points, Swezey six kills, Hiner 11 assists and Jones five blocks.
