POLAND — With 3:38 remaining, Fitch forward Tori Koch scored from 30 yards out on a breakaway after a long pass from Kelsey Martin to lift the Falcons to a 1-0 victory over Poland in a girls soccer game on Saturday.

Kacie Donahue made nine saves for Fitch (1-1), which was outshot 11-3. Stephanie Cicone made three saves for Poland (0-1).

JVs: Poland, 5-0.

Howland 3, Medina Buckeye 0

MEDINA — Senior Abby Nicholas, freshman Olivia Nicholas and junior Gina Albani scored for Howland (3-0).

The goal by Nicholas was her first at the varsity level.

Seniors Rachel Tricomi, Samantha Marscio and Kelley Drew had assists.

Casey Haering made three saves for Howland while Buckeye goalkeeper Allison Joyce stopped seven shots for the Bucks (1-1).

JVs: Howland, 6-0.

Heartland Christian 6,

East Liverpool Christian 0

COLUMBIANA — Kyle Knepper and Treg Lunger each scored goals for Heartland Christian (2-0), which led 3-0 at halftime.

Nate Hall made 24 stops while Tyler Burgess made 10 saves. Will Martin of East Liverpool made 13 stops.

Mooney 4, Akron SVSM 0

STRUTHERS — Katie Griswold scored three goals to spark the Cardinals (2-0).

Amy Vinopal added the other goal and she had two assists. Maggie Vinopal had an assists.

Mooney made 14 shots on goal, compared to three for St. Vincent-St. Mary’s (0-2). The Cardinals’ Rachael Letscher made three saves.

JVs: SVSM, 4-0.

Boys

Ursuline 2, Coventry 2

YOUNGSTOWN — Senior Cory Coffey and junior John Buckley scored for Ursuline at Wick Recreation Area.

Nesho Ivanis scored both goals for Coventry (0-1-1).

Jim Lacko assisted on Coffey’s goal and Coffey assisted on Buckley’s tally.

Maurice Hernandez made nine saves for the Comets while senior Andrew Rich saved two shots for Ursuline (2-0-1).

Mooney 3, Perrysburg 1

STRUTHERS — Matt McWilson, Hector Hernandez and Thomas Beck each scored a goal for the Cardinals (3-0). McWilson, Rob Fox and James Simon had an assist apiece.

With the scored tied 1-1, Hernandez put the Cardinals ahead with his goal with 13 minutes remaining in the game. Beck added an insurance goal with four minutes left.

Mooney took eight shots on goal, compared to four by the Yellow Jackets (0-1).

Cardinals goalkeeper Jon Critell made three saves.

Poland 7, Fitch 1

AUSTINTOWN — Matt Mrozek scored two goals, while Ryan Storkel, Scott Riddle, Andrew McElroy, Danny Hunt and David Joseph each scored one for the Bulldogs (2-0). Nick Bowlen scored the Falcons’ goal.

Poland’s Ryan Rovnak, Taylor Malaniak, Charles Lamping, Storkel and Mrozek each had an assist. The Bulldogs had 13 shots on goal and Fitch had five.

The Bulldogs’ Cooper Kostelic made four saves. The Falcons’ Bobby Douglas made six.
