YOUNGSTOWN — Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church, 252 E. Wood St., will hold a novena to St. Therese of the Child Jesus starting next month. Services will be Thursdays, Sept. 4-Oct. 2, with the rosary at 5 p.m. and Mass at 5:30. St. Therese religious articles will be available.

Afternoon of spirituality

HOWLAND — Benedictine Sisters of the Byzantine Church at Queen of Heaven Monastery, 8640 Squires Lane N.E., are offering an afternoon of spirituality from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 13. Presenter will be the Rev. Thomas Wesdock, pastor of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Uniontown, Pa. His topic will be “St. Paul’s Vision of the Church.”

Workshop on dreams

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will present a workshop, “Dream Work Intensive,” Sept. 25-28 at Villa Maria Community Center. The session will explore dream work and the religious and personal significance in one’s life. Methods for improving dream recall and keeping a personal dream journal will be shared. Janice Bachman, a spiritual director, retreat director and Jungian Analyst training candidate, will lead the program.

Church goes ‘whole hog’

NORTH JACKSON — First Federated Church, 10786 Mahoning Ave., plans to buy a hog at the Canfield Junior Fair 4-H auction scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Canfield Fair. The church will donate the meat to the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley.

Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard is a mission within the church that serves community families with food staples and other necessities. The mission is open from 10 a.m. to noon the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.

Ecumenical service at fair

CANFIELD — An ecumenical service will take place at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 31 near the grandstand at Canfield Fairgrounds. Singers interested in participating in the choir are asked to gather at 9 for a rehearsal. Music this year will include the spiritual “I Shall Not Be Moved” and “The Old Irish Blessing.” Tom and Kelly Scurich will present special music. Participants will be reimbursed their admission fee for that day. The choir usually attracts some 40 participants.

Outdoor concert

GIRARD — The Bridge will be featured at an outdoor concert set for 4 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, 890 Churchill Road. The group plays classic rock, reggae, country, easy-listening, gospel and contemporary praise music. Refreshments and beverages will be available. A free-will offering will be taken. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be in the church.

CORTLAND — Pastor Dan Barker of Cortland Trinity Baptist Church, 2576 McCleary Jacoby Road, will offer “Who Is This Jesus? Introduction to Christianity,” starting next month. The free, eight-week class is planned from 11 a.m. to noon Sundays, starting Sept. 7 at the church. A syllabus will be provided. To register, call the church at (330) 637-1421. PPC luncheon

YOUNGSTOWN — Professionals Partnering with Christ will meet at noon Sept. 4 at the Youngstown Club in the Commerce Building. Reservations are required by Friday. Guest speaker will be attorney Richard Mastriana, vice president and part owner of Commonwealth-Suburban Title Co. with offices in Youngstown and Boardman. He leads a men’s Bible study twice a month.

Weekend events set

YOUNGSTOWN — There will be a time of Prayer, Praise and Proclamation at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1210 Himrod Ave. Guest speaker will be elder Christopher McKee. A youth jam fest, “Crank that Christ,” is scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday. Admission is $2.

Harpist to perform

NORTH LIMA — Eduard Klassen of Ontario, Canada, international harpist, will present Christian instrumental music at 7 p.m. Thursday at North Lima Mennonite Church, 90 Mennonite Drive. He has given more than 3,000 concerts. An offering will be taken.

Pastor anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN — Divine Assemblies, 1501 Glenwood Ave., will celebrate the first anniversary of its pastor, J.L. Stanford, during three programs. Guest speakers will be Pastor Larry McCulloh of World Fellowship Church at 7 p.m. Thursday, Pastor Kenneth Paramore of Christian Revival and Discipleship Center at 7 p.m. Friday and Pastor Michael Harrison of Union Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Guest speaker

EAST PALESTINE — The Rev. Dr. Joe Atkins, pastor emeritus at Northminister Church in Cuyahoga Falls, will be guest speaker at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday at First United Presbyterian Church, 109 W. Rebecca St. He retired as pastor at Northminster after 27 years and serves as a supply pastor, on Eastminster Presbytery committees and on the Council of the Covenant.
