Scrappers’ errors help Muckdogs to 4-2 win

Three of Batavia’s runs were unearned.

BATAVIA, N.Y. — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers were in a giving mood as the New York-Penn League resumed play Thursday night.

After a three-day hiatus for the All-Star break, the Scrappers committed four errors in a 4-2 loss to the Batavia Muckdogs before 1,234 fans at Dwyer Stadium. All four of the Scrappers’ miscues had a hand in Batavia’s scoring, and three of the Muckdogs’ runs were unearned.

Jeremie Tice, Ramon Hernandez and Zach Booker all had two hits for the Scrappers, who had 10 as a team to Batavia’s seven.

Tim Fedroff and Lonnie Chisenhall hit doubles for Mahoning Valley (26-34), whose two-game winning streak was snapped.

Chisenhall and Cord Phelps drove in runs in the ninth inning for the Scrappers’ only runs.

Chris Swauger and Alex Castellanos led Batavia with a pair of hits, including a double by Castellanos. Edwin Gomez added a two-run double for the Muckdogs in the second inning for the first runs of the game.
