JACKSON-MILTON Board meeting

School officials handled these matters Thursday night:

Heard a presentation by Suzette Jackson, an instructional consultant with the Mahoning County Educational Service Center of Boardman, regarding local report card data for the schools and district. All three schools will receive effective ratings when the state report card comes out next week, in part because they met the required percentage of indicators, she noted. Superintendent Kirk Baker said officials will discuss at the next board meeting strategies for achieving an excellent rating in the schools. The five ratings are academic emergency, academic watch, continuous improvement, effective and excellent.

Saw a variety of schematic drawings showing possible color patterns and materials for the new Jackson-Milton High School/Middle School. During their talk, representatives of AVG Construction Inc. of Cleveland sought audience feedback while displaying the renderings that detailed what type of flooring, designs and colors could be used in the administration, cafetorium, classrooms, gym and other areas. The district hired AVG to oversee the design and other facets of the $14.5 million project. Baker said construction of the school on Mahoning Avenue is on schedule and that a roof should cover the entire building by December. Work should wrap up next July for the facility, which will house pupils in grades six through 12, and it’s set to open in September 2009.
