2 teen boys rescued from ice and snow

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. (AP) — Crews have rescued two teenage boys who were trapped under ice and snow after a snow bridge collapsed on top of them near a mountain summit east of Seattle.

King County sheriff’s spokesman John Urquhart said Thursday evening that the teens are suffering from hypothermia.

He says the 14-year-old’s has serious but not life-threatening injuries and the 17-year-old is being evaluated.

The teens were hiking with their mothers and two others Thursday afternoon when they fell through the snow field.

Rescuers used chainsaws to cut through blocks of compacted snow and ice to reach the boys.

About 40 to 50 rescuers scrambled to the area about 45 miles east of Seattle.
